Broader concensus
Unless a company managed by owner them-selves, many companies like to make
broader concensus, not only in lines of communication, also in every related
parties, for making decisionon big issue, such as big-budget investment.
So what, it would be rather bottom-up proccess than top down proccess.
It requires specific approach for making it possible.
One advantage of such proccess is that making actual operation swifted
due to every person knowing (and getting involved in) big investment ahead
of project launching.
Vertical relation between seller and buyer
If you want to pay for one set of cheese -burger at bill of USD 100 x 10
in Japan, you can get the exact change without any trouble without any
refuse. They never ask you to pay one bill at USD 100 at least
When our business partner form Western culture comes in any shops in Japan,
supermarket, restraunt, etc, sometimes they might be embrassed in the cusromer's
behaivor of local peaple, who never say "thank you" to the casher,
inspite of all of casher saying "thank you" to the customer.
We would say it is suppoded to be reverse of expected behaivor on managing
social relation in Western culture.
This reflects typical attitude of buyer in Japan, So to speak,
such behaivor retains veritcal relation between seller and buyer as long
historical habit by daily behaivor.
Unless there is absolute understanding on this natural system, it seems
to be stressful for the person
coming from Western culture, not only in daily choir, also in business.
In other word, all of seller in Japan would be expected on rather expressing
respect to customer and giving swift service than being friendly with horizontal
attitude.
